Who says shopping isn't exercise?

Yesterday I went shopping with my husband and 2-year old. We drove to this outlet center in NY. It's a huge complex with tons of stores. I almost felt guilty on the drive to the center, because I hadn't been to the gym. But, as I reflect on the day, it was most certainly a workout.

First of all, as in any day of marathon shopping, there is a lot of walking to be done. I wish I had been wearing a pedometer. But, I was just proud that we chose to park in one spot, and walk from one section of the complex to another, instead of driving over, like so many people chose to do.

And walking isn't the only exercise I got, on several occasions I worked my legs. How you ask? In the notorious squat-over-the-seat move that women know so well. I had been chugging water, and needed to use the bathroom a few times. Yuck! They were your typical public restrooms. Smelly and dirty. So, instead of lowering myself onto the questionable seats, I hovered above and did my business. So much water leads to long bouts of squatting! So, my quads got a workout too.

This particular center had several areas for children to play, including coin-operated rides. Saxon saw them, and just had to ride EVERY SINGLE one! That resulted in lifting my 45-pound boy out of his stroller and into the machines. Over and over again. The arms got their share that day as well.

So, while it wasn't kick-boxing at the gym, I did break a sweat a few times. And in the process, took home some new workout gear from the Nike Factory Store. A win in my book!
