Lamenting the Loss of my Gym

As my time winds down here in Bergen County, I find myself beginning to already miss my fabulous gym, Can-Do Edgewater. With under 3 weeks left as a member each experience now feels so close to being the last. Today in my Full-Out (latin & hip hop dance) class, I thought, "damn, where am I gonna have this much fun and still get a workout that leaves my hips aching at night?" I can already hear the snickers from those of you reading...

At any rate, as I gathered up my belongings from my locker after class today, I looked around the very spa-like locker room. I doubt I will find a gym in my new neck of the woods that offers the same luxurious amenities. Ladies - there's nothing like the showers at Can-Do: tiled stalls with multiple shower heads for a full body massage. H-E-A-V-E-N.

But for all of the high-end goodies I could mention about the facility, the thing I am going to miss the most is the wonderful people who I've come to call friends. I have met so many great members, instructors and trainers. Going in there every morning is like seeing your co-workers each day (except I like these people...just kidding Fox Family). I genuinely enjoy their chit-chat and the motivation they bring to me in class. That's the real bummer about moving I suppose. Now, I have to start over, and make new gym friends.

Fortunately, I've managed to Facebook with a lot of my current gym friends, so we'll be able to stay in touch. And the true beauty of friends - you don't have to sweat next to them, to keep them. :-)

Right? You Can-Do bitches better stay in touch!

Labor Day and Grilling Out

Today is Labor Day, and I am kinda thankful that my family and I are not attending any picnics or cookouts. Why? Because I always have a tendency to go overboard at those shindigs, and eat too much. How can people resist all the delicious dips, desserts and chili-covered dogs? I can't.

So, we are chilling at home this year, and will likely grill something in the backyard. That's my answer to easy meal-making during the summer and warm weather. When in doubt - grill it. Chicken mostly, but we also like to cook burgers, steak, and sausage on the grill too. And the best part of cooking on the grill, other than the taste, is that grilling tends to keep the calorie count at meal time lower.

In honor of all the backyard-barbecues taking place today, I thought I would share some healthy recipes for the grill. Check out this link to the Eating Well website. They have lots to choose from, and the filet kabobs look pretty good! Enjoy your day!
