New York City Triathlon - July 18

I'm reading about the folks who are preparing for the upcoming triathlon in NYC on July 18.
And I really admire those folks - wow, what preparation it must take to run 6 miles, bike 25 and then - the toughest part in my opinion - jump into the Hudson river and swim a mile!

I walk by the Hudson river on at least a weekly basis, if not more often, and I have to say, that water looks disgusting. I've heard its toxic. I won't even let my dog swim in that nastiness - I couldn't imagine diving in myself! Christ, what if a few drops got into your mouth?? Imagine what you might wake up with the next day!

Seriously, can someone tell me that an expert or someone tests that water in advance, and finds it safe for swimming?

At any rate, for all of those triathlon contenders, you deserve big praise for your level of fitness and endurance, and a big medal for bravery! Have a nice swim.

  1. My cousin's wife did it 2 years ago. Afterwards, I couldn't help but look for a third eye. ;)
