Weekend Recap and Today's Exercise

Sorry I didn't post anything this weekend. We went home to visit the in-laws. I really took it easy this weekend. Sadly, I didn't get much exercise in, other than the usual chasing of Saxon. And I must admit, I fell off the no-sweets wagon, and had peanut butter pie in honor of my husband's birthday. (gotta celebrate, right!)

Today, I've been back on track. I hit the gym early for a spin class, followed by a new class for me, called Iyengar Yoga. I'm not even sure how to pronounce that first word. And I was equally confused by most of what the instructor said. She spoke with an accent, and while her words didn't perplex me - their meaning did. She said a lot of things that I suppose were meant to be visualized instead of literally possible. For instance, she kept referring to our need to "create space between our shoulder blades, and inhaling into that space." She spoke of making straight lines with our body, of pulling body parts this way or that. I know yoga has a lot to do with state of mind, as it does the body, so her dialogue didn't really come as a surprise. I was startled to see how difficult some of the class was. We did standing poses, that required bending at the knee on one leg, squaring the hips and reaching overhead, and holding it - for what I swear - felt like forever!  A couple of times I wished I was in Boot Camp class!!
My heart rate went up, and my muscles were burning.

Even laying on the floor and stretching felt like work. She talked about lengthening the spine and had us twisting to do so. I am worried about how sore I am going to feel tomorrow in my back. But, I do think I will continue trying this class at least once a week. I'd like to have more of a longer appearance, and yoga is supposed to do that.

All-in-all, I left the gym today feeling pretty good. Looking forward to my workout tomorrow with the personal trainer. Then Friday I get remeasured and reweighed. Keep your fingers crossed for some improvements!!
